Maths Mate Term 2 Sheet 5

Predict:  I predict this maths sheet is going to be about problem solving because I see equations.

Read:  In question 7 the equation is 800  divided by 100= something I worked it out and got 8.

Clarify:  Nothing to clarify.

Big Question:  My question is what is the weight if seven bricks if three and a half bricks weigh seven kilograms? Is it 15 kg or 14 kg?

Mathematics Toolbox:  I used draw a diagram and guess, check and improve.

Solve: In question 8 the equation is 5 divided by 500 the first thing I did was how many times does 5 go in to 5 with is 1 then I did 5 divided by 0 which equals 0, then I did 5 divided by 0 again which equals 0 so the answer is 100.

Summary: This maths sheet was about problem solving and measurement.

Maths Mate Term 2 Sheet 4

Predict:  I predict that this maths sheet is going to be about problem solving because I see lots of  equations.

Read:  In question 10 it says, if three eights of the birthday cake was eaten, what fraction of the cake remains? I did 4, because all you need to figure out is how many pieces of cake weren’t eaten. So it was 4 pieces of cake that was eaten because 8 pieces were eaten.

Clarify:  Nothing to clarify.u

Big Question:  Question 13 says 5  times something = 5, I put in 1 to make it 5 times 1 = 5, but could it be a 2 digit number?

Mathematics Toolbox: I used guess, check and improve.

Solve: In question 6 the equation is 60 – 6 to work it out I did 0 take away 6 but  that doesn’t work so you cross out the 6 make it a 5 carry the 1 were the 0 is then it will be 10 – 6 which equals 4. Then you do 5 take away nothing which equals 5.

Summary: This maths mate sheet was about problem solving basically because it was showing lots of  equations that I had to work out.

Packing Pellets

Aim: To see what happens when you put the packing pellet in the small beaker full of water.

Materials: Small beaker, water, packing pellet.

Results: The packing pellet was all soft after about 15 or 10 minutes because we left it. It  looked a little bit like spit. From birds eye view it kinda looked like a cloud or cotton candy. It also went under the water level pretty fast.

Discussion: The packing pallets were fully under it’s water level. It looked like it was breaking apart but it wasn’t it was all together.

Conclusion: At the very end the packing pallet had sunk very close to the bottom.

Maths Mate Term 2 Sheet 3

Predict: I predict that this maths sheet is going to be about problem solving.

Read: In question 10 it says two thirds of the students are girls. What fraction of the students are boys? I did one third.

Clarify: Nothing to clarify.

Big Question: In question 22 it says how many numbers between 17 and 61 are divisible? I didn’t answer the question, so what would be a good strategy I could use.

Mathematics toolbox: I used draw a diagram.

Solve: In question 19 it says how many sides are on this octagon? What I did was counted how many sides there were, and my answer was 8.

Summary: This maths mate sheet was about addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Maths mate Term 2 – Sheet 2

Predict: I predict that this maths mate sheet is going to be about measurement,  because on the first side of the sheet it says, use the scale to find the height of the penguin in metres.

Read: In question 8, it says 17 times 5. My answer was 35.

Clarify: What does the word rhombus mean in maths?

Big Question:  In question 10 it says, write a fraction equal to 1 that has a denominator of 6. What does the whole question mean?

Mathematics Toolbox: I did, guess, check & improve.

Solve: in Question 8 (17 time 5) I times 7 by 5 which equals 35,  then I put the 5 down and carried the 3 then I times the 3 and 1 and that equals 3 so I put the 3 down, and my answer was 35.

Summary: In this weeks maths mate sheet (sheet 2) it was about addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and problem solving.
