BTN debating championships

Listen to me read:

3 facts:

1. 1 fact I learnt was that when debating you must think before you share/speak.

2. Another fact I learnt was that people say that debating can help with all sorts of things.

3. One more fact I learnt is that debating is similar to what the government deals with.

2 understandings:

1. One understanding I now understand is that debating might be scary to present in front of a few people but it is also fun.

2. One more understanding I now understand is that debating can help with all sorts of other learning skills, so we must always stay on topic of our work because you also learn from it and your mistakes.

1 question/wonder:

One question I still have is what is the most important reason why schools debate these days?

Key:

facts =  Red

understandings =  Blue

Question/wonders = Purple

100wc week #34

… so as she lifted the lid…

Listen to my story :

As I got home from school and walked in the front door and into the kitchen to get a snack, I saw a box  sitting on the bench. I was home alone because my mum was grocery shopping, my dad was still at work, and my older sister was still on the bus coming home from school.

” Who would leave a box sitting on the kitchen bench”. I said to myself with wonder.

So as I lifted the lid and opened the box, there was nothing inside. I thought that some one was pranking me or something but no one was home. ???

3 facts:

1. One fact I learnt is that kids are starting to create things out of cardboard boxes with their imagination.

2. Another fact I learnt is that kids created things out of cardboard boxes from all around the world such as, Tokyo, LA, sri lanka and  Chicago.

3. One more fact I learnt is that people say that using your imagination and hands to make stuff is something kids would like to do more often.

2 understandings:

1. One understanding I now understand is to not always be on technology, and be more creative and create things.

2. Another understanding I now understand is that kids actually like creating things out of cardboard more then playing video games.

1 question:

1 question I still have is, how many people in the world create things out of cardboard?

This BTN  story was about kids in the world that are using their imagination to create things out of cardboard such as games, costumes etc.

100wc week #33

                       …but the ferocious wind …

I was walking out my local library to go home. I was about 5 minutes away and suddenly it randomly started to bucket down with rain. I had no rain coat, umbrella, gum boots or anything to keep me dry.

I was holding a couple of books that I had bought, and they were getting soaked and wet. I didn’t know what to do because there was no shelter near by. I tried to shove the books up my jumper, but the the ferocious wind blew all the books down and the pages flew opened

When I had come home I dried myself and went to go read my books, but they were all wet and ruined.

The Arts Department Art Critic Evaluation Year 5/6

Art Topic: Monoprinting

Name:  Deanne Karipidis

Classroom Teacher: Lee Pregnell

Art work title: The blue hand

Artwork Title:Description: What do you see? Describe the work of art. What is the medium?

I see lots of colours, shapes, prints etc. I used paint, paper, a jelly pad, and all different types of objects to make cool shapes and prints into my piece.

Analysis: Describe the work according to the art elements and principles. Eg. Explain the type of line you see, describe the colour, shape, texture and space.

The colour is a mix of blue and purple and the shape looks strange because there was a funny looking circle in the centre of the hand. The texture feels smooth because now that the paint has dried I would feel dry and smooth.

Interpretation: Tell the story of what you were trying to achieve with your work of art. Why did you choose to create this work of art? Why did you choose this image to print?

I decided to create this piece of art because I thought I would look interesting to see all the types of lines on my hand onto the paper.

Judgment: Give your opinion of your final piece. Be sure to include a reason for your judgment.

I think I did pretty well with this piece of art because there is lots of different colours, lines, shapes, and lots more. And it looked really cool to see that putting paint with different patterns on objects printed onto paper is pretty cool.

BTN – Chess classes

3 facts:

1. One fact I learnt about chess is that it has been around since the 6th century which is a really long time.

2. Another fact I learnt is that chess is actually a very popular game. But you have to know how the game works and how all the pieces work/move.

3. One more fact I learnt is that chess can help people with their maths skills, boost memory, teach  problem solving skills, and lastly make you more creative.

2  Understandings:

1. One understanding I now understand about chess is that the piece night can only jump, pawn can move slightly forwards, and bishop can move diagonally.

2. One more understanding I now understand about chess is that the actual focus of the game is for you to use the pieces and to check mate your player/s.

1 Question/wonder:

One wonder I still have is, how does chess help people with their maths skills, boost their memory, teach problem solving skills, and make people more creative?

This BTN story was about how chess works, and how it is a fun game but is also a learning game that helps people with their maths skills, boost memories, teach them problem solving skills, and make them more creative.

100wc week #32

One day there was a little lego girl that went out the house for a walk since it was a beautiful day out. After about an hour she was lost and couldn’t find her way home, she was getting so worried and hungry, so she walked around and searched for food. She came across this big bird sitting on a piece of a log eating some seeds. Now animals can’t talk so the little lego girl did’t ask for some of the seeds, she just took some and ran away. But little did she know the bird started to peck and chase her, so she ran as fast as she could, and when she had lost the bird  to eat her seeds they were all gone from running away.

BTN – Minecrafting Parks

Three facts:

1. One fact I learnt is that fans of minecraft get their opportunity of their ideas from minecraft and re-create a park to real life.

2. Another fact I learnt is that when creating a park is sure lots of work and can be hard because you have to imagine how things could look and how they might fit together.

3. One more fact I learnt is that a class of school students are doing a competition of creating there own worlds by making plans, drawing up diagrams/pictures/drawings, etc. And the winner designers could be built in real life. Also the competition is ran by the south Australian Government.

Two understandings:

1. One understanding I now understand is that even though its lots of work creating a park from games such as mineraft into real life, kids are still having fun along the way which is really important.

2. Another understanding I now understand is that kids have to work together to re-create a park from the minecraft gaming world into real life world  for it to be interesting to other people, and also to still have fun with it.

One question/wonder:

One wonder I still have is how did all this start and why did they agree on doing this?

This BTN story was about how students at school created a park from their minecraft worlds into real life. Students did a competition of their minecraft world to put into real life by getting into groups to work together. And the winners design could be built in real life. The competition was ran by the South Australian Government.

100wc week #31

Once upon a time there was a boy called Jack, one day his mum asked him to go up to the market to buy some milk, as Jack was walking along the streets he met a interesting  guy that  had a cow with him. He went up to that guy and started talking to him, the man  gave Jack these green ‘magical beans’.

As you would know the real story tells you that the next morning there is the huge beanstalk in the garden so Jack climbs up it and discovers this house that a giant lived in. But in this story Jack climbed up and it wasn’t a house that a giant lived in, it was a lolly land and everything was made with candy.
